1. Company
Indicates doing something in the presence or company of someone.
- Je suis allé au musée avec ma sœur. (I went to the museum with my sister.)
- Il vit avec ses parents. (He lives with his parents.)
2. Means
Indicates the instrument or tool used to do something.
- Il écrit avec un crayon. (He writes with a pencil.)
- Elle nettoie avec une éponge. (She cleans with a sponge.)
3. Manner / Attitude
Indicates the way something is done or a person’s behavior.
- Il parle avec gentillesse. (He speaks kindly.)
- Ils ont agi avec courage. (They acted with courage.)
4. Cause / Consequence
Indicates a cause or a condition that leads to a consequence.
- Avec la pluie, on n'a pas envie de sortir. (With the rain, we don't feel like going out.)
- Avec tout ce travail, elle est fatiguée. (With all this work, she’s tired.)
5. Temporary possession or accompaniment of an object
Indicates that someone has something with them.
- Il est venu avec son sac. (He came with his bag.)
- Tu as une carte avec toi ? (Do you have a map with you?)
- Elle voyage avec un sac à dos. Elle n'aime pas les valises. (She travels with a backpack. She doesn’t like suitcases.)
