Reflexive verbs are verbs that are used with a reflexive pronoun that refers to the subject of the sentence. They express an action that the subject does to or for themselves. Two common examples of reflexive verbs are se rappeler (to remember) and se doucher (to shower).
Formation of Reflexive Verbs
The formation of reflexive verbs in the present indicative requires placing the reflexive pronoun before the verb. The pronoun changes according to the person (je, tu, il/elle/on, nous, vous, ils/elles). The endings are the same as for regular verbs of the first group.
Se rappeler
Se rappeler means to remember something. In the present tense, it is conjugated as follows:
- Je me rappelle (I remember)
- Tu te rappelles (You remember)
- Il/Elle/On se rappelle (He/She/One remembers)
- Nous nous rappelons (We remember)
- Vous vous rappelez (You remember)
- Ils/Elles se rappellent (They remember)
Se doucher
Se doucher means the same as prendre une douche (to take a shower).
- Je me douche (I shower)
- Tu te douches (You shower)
- Il/Elle/On se douche (He/She/One showers)
- Nous nous douchons (We shower)
- Vous vous douchez (You shower)
- Ils/Elles se douchent (They shower)
