Pronominal verbs, such as se promener and se doucher, are verbs that use a reflexive pronoun. They indicate that the action is performed by the subject on itself.
Formation of pronominal verbs in the present indicative
To conjugate a pronominal verb in the present indicative, conjugate it like a normal verb and add a reflexive pronoun. The reflexive pronoun changes depending on the subject person.
- je me (I myself)
- tu te (you yourself)
- il / elle / on se (he/she/one himself/herself/itself)
- nous nous (we ourselves)
- vous vous (you yourselves)
- ils / elles se (they themselves)
Se promener
- Je me promène dans le parc. (I walk in the park.)
- Tu te promènes souvent le matin ? (Do you often walk in the morning?)
- Il/Elle se promène avec son chien. (He/She walks with his/her dog.)
- Nous nous promenons sur la plage. (We walk on the beach.)
- Vous vous promenez en ville ? (Do you walk in the city?)
- Ils/Elles se promènent dans les bois. (They walk in the woods.)
Se doucher
- Je me douche chaque matin. (I shower every morning.)
- Tu te douches après le sport ? (Do you shower after sports?)
- Il/Elle se douche en rentrant du travail. (He/She showers after coming home from work.)
- Nous nous douchons ensemble pour économiser l'eau. (We shower together to save water.)
- Vous vous douchez vite ou lentement ? (Do you shower quickly or slowly?)
- Ils/Elles se douchent avant d'aller au lit. (They shower before going to bed.)
